Training description

This course will allow you to explore how to use GitHub Copilot to accelerate the development of an end-to-end project. You’ll learn how to use GitHub Copilot to explain unfamiliar code, generate project documentation, develop new application features, create unit tests, and implement improvements.

Get started with GitHub Copilot

  • Explain what GitHub Copilot is and the benefits it offers.
  • Install GitHub Copilot extensions for Visual Studio Code.
  • Explain the features of GitHub Copilot extensions for Visual Studio Code and how to use them.
  • Configure GitHub Copilot extensions for Visual Studio Code.

 

Generate documentation using GitHub Copilot tools

  • Generate explanations about code blocks, code files, and entire code workspaces using the GitHub Copilot Chat extension for Visual Studio Code.
  • Generate the code project documentation using the GitHub Copilot Chat extension for Visual Studio Code.
  • Generate the documentation for inlined code using the GitHub Copilot Chat extension for Visual Studio Code.

 

Develop code features using GitHub Copilot tools

  • Generate autocomplete suggestions based on code and code comments using the GitHub Copilot extension for Visual Studio Code.
  • Manage autofill suggestions by accepting, partially accepting, and ignoring suggestions.
  • Create conversation prompts/questions that communicate your intent using a combination of conversation participants, slash commands, conversation variables, and natural language text.
  • Create code using the Chat View, Inline Chat, Quick Chat, and Smart Actions features provided by the Copilot Chat GitHub extension for Visual Studio Code.
  • Manage code update suggestions by accepting, partially accepting, editing, and ignoring suggestions generated by GitHub Copilot Chat.

 

Develop unit tests using GitHub Copilot tools

  • Create unit tests using the GitHub Copilot and GitHub Copilot Chat extensions for Visual Studio Code.
  • Create unit tests that target specific edge cases and conditions using the GitHub Copilot and GitHub Copilot Chat extensions for Visual Studio Code.
  • Use Visual Studio Code, the .NET SDK, and the C# SDK extension to create a test project and verify that your unit tests are generating and running correctly.

 

Implement code enhancements using GitHub Copilot tools

  • Develop prompts/questions for GitHub Copilot Chat to help you improve code in your existing code projects.
  • Implement code update suggestions with GitHub Copilot Chat that improve existing code in terms of quality, reliability, performance, and security.
